| Many organisations are hesitant to deploy streaming media on their sites due to the fact they don’t want to deal with the performance or support issues that may crop up. But those downsides need to be weighed against the true business benefits that accrue from streaming media deployments. No waiting for complete downloads.
Users receive the information when they need it so don't need to hanging around waiting for big downloads. Users typically hang around for about five seconds, if your media isn't producing attractive content by then the user may not hang around to find out.
No copyright issues
Streamed files are not written to disk. They are processed and played as they are received and then discarded. This means there is no residual copy of the content on the receiving device, thereby alleviating copyright concerns.
Worldwide presence
There is no better technology than streaming for conveying live events around the globe in near real time. Think of the costs traditionally associated with attending a live event, such as travel, accommodation, food etc. Streaming eliminates all of these costs whilst still providing excellent live footage to an increased global audience. Remember that the global Internet market is in its billions!
Interactivity
Streamed content can be experienced in any way – and order – the user deems fit. Video-on-demand, for example, can be chapterized, allowing users to jump to desired portions.
Increased Website Interest
Streaming content is an excellent way to enhance otherwise static Web sites. Providing unique live content is one of the most effective means of adding stickability to your website, and stickability is one of the most sought after traits of the modern website. |
