Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet popularized in books by Barry Sears, which advocates "hormonal thinking" in approach to weight loss, rather than caloric thinking. The term, "the Zone," is Sears' term to describe proper hormone balance — insulin levels in the body being neither too high nor too low — as vital to using stored bodyfat for energy, causing one to lose excess weight.

Vegetarianism
Vegetarianism is a dietary practice excluding all body parts of any animal and products derived from animals (e.g., lard, tallow, gelatin, cochineal) from one's diet. Many contemporary vegetarian diets include some honey as well as milk and other dairy products, and some include eggs.

Vegan
As a noun, a vegan is a person who follows a vegan lifestyle (i.e. avoiding animal products). Some vegans see this usage as offensive, and prefer to be referred to using the adjective form. Veganism is defined in the following quote from the Memorandum of Association (http://www.vegansociety.com/html/about_us/memorandum.php), the British Vegan Society (2004): "The word 'veganism' denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practical — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, including humans and the environment." In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet was developed by a cardiologist, Arthur Agatston, practicing in the Miami, Florida area. This way of eating is frequently confusingly compared to the Atkins diet, which is a low-carbohydrate diet, while the South Beach Diet emphasizes so-called "good carbohydrates", mainly ones that are high in fiber or nutrition, and typically low in glycemic index. The South Beach diet was developed for cardiac patients to lose weight without risking ketosis.

Slimming World
Slimming World is a British company which runs over 5000 weight loss classes a week across the UK. It was founded in 1969 by Margaret Miles-Bramwell who is still the company director as of 2004. Adults wishing to lose weight (provided that they have at least 7 pounds to lose without going below a healthy weight) may join a local Slimming World class and pay a weekly amount to attend classes. In 2004 the cost on joining was £10 and the weekly charge £3.95. In return they are given the information they need to follow Slimming World's diet plan, called Food Optimising, and the support of their consultant and the other class members

I-tal
I-tal food is food which is approved of by the teachings of Rastafarianism. There are different interpretations of what foods it allows. The general principle behind it is that food should be natural.

Pesco/pollo Vegetarianism
"Pesco/pollo vegetarianism", "pescetarianism", and "semi-vegetarianism" are neologisms coined to describe certain lifestyles of restricted diet. Most commonly, these include the practice of not eating certain types of meat (most commonly "red" meat such as beef, pork, lamb) while allowing others, such as seafood. There are usually no restrictions on non-flesh animal products such as dairy, eggs, or leather. Those observing such a diet often do so for health reasons although many do practice for ethical or religious reasons.

Paleolithic Diet
The Paleolithic diet is a dietary system. Its supporters argue that since human genetics have scarcely changed since the stone age an ideal diet would be a reconstructed stone age diet. Therefore through studying archeology and modern hunter gatherers we can learn what a healthy diet looks like.

Organic Food
Organic food has both a popular meaning, and in some countries, a legal definition. In everyday conversation, it usually refers to all "naturally produced" foods, or the product of organic farming. As a legal term, it means certified organic. The distinction is important, as the two definitions can represent quite different products.

Muslim Dietary Laws
Muslim dietary laws provide a set of rules as to what Muslims eat in their diet. These rules specify the food that is halal, meaning lawful. They are found in Quran, the holy book of Islam, usually detailing what is unlawful, or haram.
